Dave smile.jpgYears Surfing - 32

Competitive Success - 1985 ESA Jr.s North Central Florida District Champion, 1996
A.S.A.P. Men's Runner Up, 1997 A.S.A.P. Masters Champion

BIO: Not everyone can say they grew up in our nation's oldest city of St. Augustine,Florida but Dave can. This is where from the age of 9 he developed his skills in the popular punchy beach breaks of Vilano. Dave met numerous pro surfers who would come to rip the fun little jetty bowls at this fairly famous beach and watching these pro surfers gave him the inspiration to move to California in 1990 to chase his dream ofworking in the surf industry. He started as a janitor at Quiksilver in 1995, moved on to Victory Wetsuits Warehouse Manager in 1996 and then Assistant Event Director for The A.S.A.P. in 1997 through 1999.

After working as a respected judge for almost every amateur organization in the 90's
Dave was asked by the ASP North America Head Judge Tony Sutton Jr. to work the ASP
W.Q.S. 2 star Newport Beach Pro Am in 1998 and he never looked back. In that time
span Dave judged internationally and attended almost every major event in the U.S.
including The Cold Water Classic, The Boost Mobile Pro, and The U.S. Open of
Surfing. Dave has also been on the judging panel for every Mavericks Big Wave event
since 2002. Working as a judge for the Big Wave World Tour in 2010 and 2011 Dave was
selected to work such prestigious events as The Quiksilver Ceremonial in Chile, The
Billabong Big Wave Event at Pico Alto in Peru, The Nelscott Reef Big Wave
Invitational, and The Peligroso Big Wave Event at Todos Santos.

Having been an integral part of the Volcom V.Q.S. series in it's inception as well
as working as Assistant Event Director and Beach Marshall for hundreds of amateur
events, Dave understands how to best tap a young competitors potential both
physically and mentally. His knowledge of current judging criteria, rulebooks, and
ability to teach a strategy based approach to surfing their heats will play a
critical role here at Surf Happens as we help the fresh new crop of Santa Barbara's
competitive surfers reach their goals.
