Santa Barbara is one of the most beautiful places on the planet

To live here is a dream come true, to surf here is even better! With amazing weather year round, and a wide variety of waves to choose from, our corporate headquarters offers the idealic setting to learn or perfect the sport of surfing. From point breaks, and beach breaks, to reef breaks and man made spots, our training arena offers high quality waves within a short drive virtually 365 days per year.  As locals we know where to go, and follow a strict code of conduct for sharing these waves with our students keeping mobile group sizes at all times of no more than four students.

Waves & Surf Seasons

During the late Fall and Winter, October through April, the North Pacific storm activity provides a steady stream of  powerful west and northwest swells,  which produce world class waves at area point breaks and beach breaks. Surf generally ranges from two to eight feet on the faces throughout this time period with select more exposed breaks getting substantially bigger. The remainder of the year from April to October as the North Pacific settles down, the South Pacific begins generating storm activity sending solid waves to Santa and Ventura County beach and reef breaks. Often these south swells are accompanied by West windswells that provide fun peaky surf and a wide variety of spots to choose from. There is almost always an uncrowded nook or crannie somewhere when you have the local knowledge of where to go.

“The World’s Safest Beach”

Surf Happens has proudly operated surf camps and lessons on the southern end of Santa Claus Lane since 2000 and is the oldest surf school on the lane. Even sand bars, consistent break and lack of hazards, create a world class learn-to-surf-wave, which during the right swell becomes magical.  Open to swells from the west / northwest  as well as the south, SCL is generally peaky with plenty of power for intermediate and advanced surfers to hone and perfect their skills.
