About the Trainers

Chris Keet, Surf Happens Owner

Chris is a Santa Barbara native and seven time NSSA Nationals finalist and five time conference champion. He has more than 23 years competitive surfing experience and as a coach has lead local surfers to state and national championships. Raised on a boat in the Santa Barbara harbor, Chris was introduced to surfing at a very young age and was first pushed into a wave by his older sister at age six at the “Sandspit”. “ All I remember about that first wave was the nose going down and the board hitting me in the head. I swam all the way to the shore under water and booked it down the beach. I jumped back in my shell for awile before I got back into it."

Wesley Wilson, NASM, ISSA 

Professional Fitness Trainer,Nutritionist and Model who has over 3,000lbs of total client fat loss. He is the owner of Wesley Wilson Fitness and W&G Corporate Wellness, and is also the Lead Trainer of ODM Modeling Agency in NYC where he trains some of the worlds top fitness models to prep their physiques for auditions and magazines. Wesley trains several Champion Athletes which include Surfers, Football Players, MMA Fighters, and Bodybuilders. He is also a board member of the SB Wellness Council, as well as a motivational speaker for the public schools wellness committee. The Program

The work day is over and now it's time to relax and get fit. Head down to Santa Claus Lane and let the water rinse off the day as you learn to surf while getting toned at the same time through our Surfing For Fitness training series.

Surf Happens and Wesley Wilson Fitness have teamed up to create the most comprehensive fitness and learn to surf program available guaranteed to have you standing up on waves and looking good on the beach. The program is divided into two training days per week. Tuesdays is cross training and surfing specific exercises focusing on core, stability, and overall fitness levels optimizing the learning curve for the sport of surfing, while establishing fundamental strength and flexibility levels. 

Thursdays are all surfing involving education and learning the fundamentals of the sport from history and etiquette to ocean knowledge, understanding the four basic kinds of surf spots on the planet, how to read the wind, waves, tides and currents (WWTC), and the basic movements that help to turn the surfboard into an extension of the body. We also teach you about reading the line up, how, where, and why waves break, positioning, catching and standing up on waves. You Can Do It!

By the end of the six week Surfing For Fitness program you will be toned, catching waves and standing up on your own, have the fundamentals down and have fun doing it. Surfing is the ultimate form of fitness combining plyometric energy with endurance training and a full body work out. Not to mention that you are getting out in nature and enjoying all of the natural beauty that Santa Barbara has on offer.
