California Coastal Cleanup Day 2014 is now complete. Lead by Chris Keet and with the help of several different students including, Matty Pierce, Jacob brothers, and a group from Young Presidents’ Organization Orange county chapter, we cleaned up 45 pounds of trash and 16 pounds of recycling. The trash consisted of thousands of cigarette butts, many empty beer bottles, and surprisingly plastic bags with dog poop. I thought the whole point of picking up dog poop was to throw it away??? There was also a very large piece of industrial foam, a giant rusted hook, half a shoe, and a big bag of mystery blue goo. Santa Clause beach is now a lot cleaner thanks to efforts of many, which in turn will keep our ocean cleaner.
