Moms, groms, dads, and beach goers were treated to a mothers day special at Santa Claus Lane courtesy of the Hurley Surf And Enjoy Tour’s Santa Barbara stop in conjunction with Surf Happens Surf School and Channel Islands Surfboards. The contest was more of a fun, free surf with Hurley professionals, with an 18 & under fun division on softboards, and and 18 and under ripper division on hard boards.
The rules were pretty simple, best wave each heat was counted towards advancement. All participants were encouraged to just have fun and not be serious with extra points for wipe outs, dance moves, and silliness. The youngest participant was 2 years old with the oldest being 14 year olds. Every surfer got to participate in two heats with the top 3 scorers in each division moving on to a bonus round to determine over top three winners.
Everyone on hand enjoyed the cool free mothers day hats, dance contests, corn hole, sand crab wars, chase the pro games, and a sand castle building contest. All surfers were registered to win a shopping spree at Channel Islands Surfboards, A trip for two to the Hurley Pro, Wetsuits, Dragon Sunglasses, Surf Happens camps and Aloha Surf Sisters mom packages and a Lanikai Ukulele and they each got cool Hurley gift bags.
In the end the results weren’t as important as the fun and enjoyment we all had as families. Beautiful weather, good waves, and good times. After the contest it was back to Channel Islands Surfboards for refreshments and fun with the Hurley Team making ty dye shirts.
