Surf Into Summer, 2010 ISD Wrap Up

Check out this news coverage of the event!

Sunday, June 20th was officially International Surfing Day, and the kick off to summer in California! Surf Happens teamed up with the Surfrider Foundation to create ‘Surf Into Summer’, a free beach day for the community held at Santa Claus Ln. The day included a free surf contest for the kids, free surf lessons, a beach cleanup, a yoga class, beach fitness, games, and live music all day!

The event was filled with smiling faces, clear skies, and perfect summer waves.  The motto was ‘Leave It Beautiful’ with a beach cleanup put on by The Surfrider Foundation and local environmental group Save The Mermaids.  The groups scanned the mile long section of beach for an hour, coming away with bags of trash and leaving it more beautiful then before.  Surf Happens made hourly reminders to beach goers to pack up their trash and keep the beaches clean!

Free Culture Arts, a local music organization presented live music all day in the sand! It was open mic style performances with 15-30 minute sets throughout the day. The lineup ended with an outstanding performance from Oriana and Eric of Soul Majestic. The day was an overwhelming success, a few people caught their first waves, the beach was left spotless, and everyone left with smiles and sun kissed faces.

This was Surf Happens; Santa Barbara’s Premier Surf Schools; third annual ‘Ohana Surf Day’. A free beach day for the community intending to get people into the joy of surfing and spread awareness on the importance of a clean beach.
